Remember to give to the church and other men of God. He who gives to the prophet will receive a prophet’s reward (Matt. 10:41). Whatever you do to God’s people in the Name of Jesus Christ, you do to God (Matt. 10:40-42).
When you give to the ministers of the Gospel, you are giving to the Lord they are serving. You don’t give them because they are poor or rich, you give them because the Lord commanded and expects you to give them. Don’t wait till they ask you, because they may not ask you; and don’t turn your ministers into beggars.
Where a minister is paid by the church, he should be paid a good amount that will take care of him and his family. Do you want your pastor or evangelist to steal or beg? Of course, even if he does not have money, that will not be an excuse for him to do so; but remember that God will also hold you responsible if the money is there and you refuse to take good care of his churches and ministers.
The Bible says that it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). This Statement from God should make us develop our minds, to fashion our minds in such a way that we will be willing to give. This, according to the Scripture, will make us to be more blessed.
You can’t beat God in giving because the more you give God, the more He blesses you in return. Apart from the physical reward you will receive, you will also have an eternal inheritance and reward reserved for you in Heaven (Rev. 22:12). Nothing is too much to give God. If you build a cathedral for God, you did not do too much for Him; after all, He gave His Only Son, Jesus Christ, to us.
How do you give God? You give God your time, your energy, your talent, and many other things that you possess. In Acts of the Apostles, people sold their lands and gave God all (Acts 2:41-47; Acts 4:32-37)).
Tithes And Offering:
Tithes and offerings are expected of us by God. This is why the Lord God said that the people of Israel robbed Him in tithes and offerings (Mal. 3:8). Notice that they did not rob Him in tithes only, but in tithes and offerings.
Tithes represent ten percent (10%) of your income. In the Old Testament, the children of Israel were commanded to pay tithes. Even before them, Abraham, our father of faith, gave tithes to Melchizedek, the King of Salem (Gen. 14:20).
However, it is a good thing to give God your tithe. I chose to use the word ‘give’ instead of the word ‘pay,’ because we are not under the law (Rom. 6:14-15). However, we must not use our freedom as occasion for sin, hypocrisy, and disobedience (Gal. 5:13).
The Bible talks about tithes and offerings to God. Offerings could be free-will offering, thanksgiving offering, or first-fruit offering. You should give to ministers of the Gospel, the Servants of God.
You should give to the poor, the widows, the orphan, the sick, and the needy as God leads you. It is good to give to beggars; but please, cover the money you give out, especially to strangers, with the Blood of Jesus Christ.
People say that we must pay tithes because Abraham paid tithes: Abraham gave tithe, and we will give tithe, because God said, “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My House” (Mal. 3:10). Yes, we must give tithes, but not just because Abraham gave tithes. Abraham was circumcised, and we know that circumcision is not necessary for salvation (Gal. 5:1-14).
We are to give tithes, not primarily because of the opening of the windows of Heaven for blessings to be poured on us, or for God to rebuke the devourer for our sakes, but because God commanded it. And the primary reason why God commanded the tithe is so that there may be enough resources to do God’s Work, and take care of those who minister in the House of God.
If you don’t give your tithes, you are serving the devil, and not God in this regard. Why? Because money is needed for the furtherance of God’s Work. Without people giving their tithes, there will not be sufficient money needed to spread the Gospel all over the world, and that is exactly what the devil wants.
Do you know that the Lord God is looking forward to the day that you will give in a measure that is more than the tithe? He needs it for His Work and Gospel to spread. Of course, nothing is impossible to God, and He will rain down money from Heaven if He can; but my God is not a counterfeiter, and is not in the business of forging nations’ currencies. He gives you because He wants to bless you, and He expects you to support His Work.
Brethren, we give tithes to show God that we love Him; we give tithes in obedience to God’s Expectation from us; we give tithes to further God’s Work; and we give tithes to prove to God that He and His Work are esteemed by us and we don’t love ourselves more than Him.
God said that the disobedience of the people of Israel in paying their tithes made them to be cursed, and gave the devil and devourer access in their lives to devour their stock and substance. God said that if they repented and obeyed Him, He Himself will rebuke the devourer for their sake. God said that they should bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that they may be food in His House.
Without tithes, there wouldn’t be abundant substance in churches, ministries, and fellowships. A pastor of a church may spend his energy crying that his people should never take any tithe to any other church, fellowship, ministry, or minister apart from his church or he himself; but, my friend, look up to God, and He will sustain your church and ministry. Don’t waste your time unnecessarily.
Remember that the robbing is in tithes and offerings. It is robbing, because the Lord is seeing you as you are taking His money from Him. People give anything they like to God in the name of offering. Some pastors and ministers are responsible for their congregations’ reluctance to give. They don’t teach them well about giving. I am not saying that any minister should be money-conscious; but, brother, money is needed for the furtherance of God’s Work.
Develop the habit of giving quality offerings to God. He will bless you abundantly. There were different kinds of offerings in the Old Testament, which include: freewill offerings, burnt offerings and burnt sacrifices, meat offerings, drink offerings, peace offerings, trespass offerings, sin offerings, sweet savour offerings, and non-sweet savour offerings.
In conclusion, to most people, the subject of giving money to the church and the poor is a sensitive topic. Many people will ignore and place this topic on the back burner, never really coming to terms with it. That is what I did for many years. Giving was not important to me until I realized it was important to God. In fact, I believe it is one of the gateways to heaven. I believe that by not giving what is required of us may put our salvation in jeopardy.
